Before starting to read and discover Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, I must warn you. Distrust the double effect Discworld, with its dangers for our balance and our personal life:
- whoever will begin the series will immediately return to the stupid age. The reading of the series comes along with main symptoms bound to a regression of one or two decades: need of evasion, monomania, development of a language and a parallel symbolism, a loss of common sense, ...
- whoever will begin the series won't have any social life until he will have read all the books published. The first four months which follow the reading of the first two novels (The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic) will not be possible to be anything else than dedicated to the reading of the series. It is not necessary to try to read anything else. In fact, yes it is, just to measure your degree of poisoning. Going to the cinema will weigh you. It will even may be necessary to give up going out with friends, to lie to relatives to isolate you and join the Disc. It's a risk you'll have to run but it's worth doing it. The dumping in the Discworld amounts, according to scientists, to the absorption of a dozen pills of ecstasy.
